Military Exhibits on Army Corporal Harold W Roberts and more…

In the Main Museum are exhibits on training at Camp Roberts during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam and Gulf Wars. There are exhibits on Army Corporal Harold W. Roberts (the Camp’s WWI Medal of Honor namesake), the pre-Army ranches, Salinan Indians, National Guard, Women’s Army Corps, the WWII train station and hospital, the camp’s celebrity trainees, mess halls, civilian workers, the Soldier Bowl shows, and more. There is also a reference library, a large picnic/event area, and a video theater area where the “History of Camp Roberts” film is shown. The Main Museum has a gift shop with books, WWII postcards, toys, posters, DVDs, souvenirs, logo clothing and many other interesting military-themed items.
The Museum Annex houses a large military vehicle collection as well as many other exhibits, including the Camp stage shows and radio broadcasts, Red Skelton’s barracks area, the laundry and post office, the Camp chapels, the camp’s WWII POWs, a D-Day exhibit, exhibits on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the camp’s large and historic SATCOM satellite station, training by the British and other allies, and the UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) testing and training program. Visitors are allowed to climb inside the main battle tanks, self-propelled howitzers, armored personnel carriers, and helicopters. Visitors can also try on uniforms from various periods and nations and handle reproduction small arms and rocket launchers (great photo ops!).
